Everywhere you go lately someone is talking about CBD. Heck, your friend is even giving it to their dog. But… is it safe? With all the misconceptions and CBD myths out there, it’s no wonder people are confused.
It’s time to forget everything you thought you knew about CBD products because it’s (most likely) incorrect. Hemp-based cannabidiol (CBD) products can do amazing things for your body and mind, like help soothe aching muscles, relieve tension, and reduce pain.
Yet, people are getting tripped up on bad information and it’s preventing them from experiencing its natural benefits.
Ready to debunk some serious CBD myths? Let’s get started!
Myth #1: CBD Will Get You High
Worried that using topical CBD products will turn you into a stoner? Don’t be. Hemp-based CBD products contain only trace amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive component responsible for marijuana’s high-as-a-kite, munchies-inducing effects.
As Health states, “CBD is the non-psychoactive portion of the plant, so what that means is you won’t have any effects like euphoria. You won’t feel sedated or altered in any way.”
Yep… no matter how much hemp-based CBD balm you slather on your body, you’ll never get high in the Snoop Dogg sense. That said, CBD might have you feeling high on life thanks to its ability to minimize muscle soreness and pain.
Myth #2: You Need a Medical Marijuana Card to Buy CBD Products
Listen, Snoop Dogg, you’re barking up the wrong tree here. Since most CBD products are nearly THC-free, you don’t need a special card of any kind to buy them. (Except maybe a debit card.)
There’s no mandatory doctor visit, no applications to fill out, and no prescriptions needed. In fact, there are no hoops to jump through whatsoever. As long as you buy from a reputable seller (see myth #3), you can legally buy hemp-based CBD products anywhere your little heart desires.
Myth #3: CBD Products Aren’t Legal in all 50 States
Wrong again! Hemp-derived CBD products are legal in all 50 states, from sea to shining sea. And if you use them, you don’t need to worry about ending up in a real-life “Orange Is the New Black” situation. But that doesn’t mean you should buy them from just anyone.
As High Times explains, “CBD products that are made from “hemp” strains are legal in ALL fifty states as long as they contain less than 0.3% of THC.”
This allows you to get all the therapeutic benefits without the high.
Always do your homework to find out how much THC is in a company’s products. If it’s not listed? Puff, puff, pass. But seriously… only buy from a seller who discloses that information upfront.
Myth #4: CBD Products Are Nothing but a Passing Fad
CBD’s benefits might be new to you, but cannabidiol-based products are anything but a passing fad.
“The first documented use of cannabis-derived medicine dates back to 2737 BC when Chinese Emperor Sheng Nung used a cannabis-infused tea to aid with a variety of ailments including memory, malaria, rheumatism, and gout,” says Aaron Cadena, editor for CBD Origin.
Queen Victoria also gave cannabidiol-based medicine the royal nod of approval. According to The Telegraph, she used it to alleviate menstrual cramps at the beginning of the 19th century.
Pretty cool, right? If you decide to give CBD a try, it’s safe to say you’ll be in good company.
Myth #5: You Can’t Take Topical CBD Products on a Plane
Untrue! You can take topical CBD products on a plane as long as you purchased them from a credible source.
“Products/medications that contain hemp-derived CBD or are approved by the FDA are legal as long as it is produced within the regulations defined by the law under the Agriculture Improvement Act 2018,” states the TSA.
For example, at Cozy Cactus Goods, our solid body balms contain less than 0.3% THC and come in 1-ounce containers. This makes our products fully compliant and downright flyable, no matter where you’re heading.
Health and Wellness Without the High
Now that you know CBD is safe, legal, and unable to get you high, you can feel free to balm it up as much — or as little — as you want.
With therapeutic benefits that help ease pain, inflammation, muscle tension, and soreness, hemp-based CBD products just might become a staple in your self-care arsenal.
